WHAT TO GET TO BE PREPARED

This article sums up what is good to get prepared to make Paragami smoothly. We are sure, most of the tools you have already  at home, but it is always good to go through a checklist;)

01 / CUTTING

02 / MATERIAL FOR THE ART

03 / FOLDING

04 / GLUEING

05 / BACKBOARD MATERIAL

06 / HANGING
  • CUTTING MAT

Cutting mats protect the surface of your tabletop or workbench from cuts, glue or
any other damage that can occur while paper cutting. It also does not make your blade blunt.

  • SCALPEL

The scalpel is super sharp and has spare razors, usually of different shapes. Those are used for curve cuts etc. A slim body grip makes it easy to cut with a scalpel.

  • SCISSORS

Everyone has scissors at home. Make sure to use clean and sharp ones. It might be hard to cut inner corners. In those cases, we recommend using a scalpel.

  • UTILITY KNIFE

You can also use a utility knife. For straight lines, it works perfectly.

  • METAL RULLER

The metal ruler is used as a guide for cutting. You and get a rigid one. An L-shaped ruler is easier to press down and keep in place. Metal rulers do not get destroyed by the sharp blades and razors.

  • PLOTTER

Easied way to cut out the shapes is to use a plotter - this machine does all the hard work for you. You can read more in this article.

  • COLOUR PAPER

  • WOOD VENEER

Wood veneer sheet / paper offers amazing alternative which looks so natural. Almost as if was made from real wood.

  • STONE / METAL WALLPAPER

Flexible papers with stone / marble or metal decoration also look great with Paragami.

  • COTTON GLOVES

You should get a pair of gloves to avoid getting the paper dirty. Also, your hands won't be sweating.

  • SCORING PAPER TOOL

This a special tool do score the folding lines. You can ofcourse use any other blunt knive or a needle.

  • SCORING BOARD

This board helps you to make straight scoring. However, you can simply use a ruler as a guide instead.

  • PAPER GLUE STICK

The dry glue stick does not make the paper crumple. You can get it in any stationary shop. It is a great value cost.

  • PAPER ART GLUE

This is for professinals. The glue dries clear. It provides excellent adhesion to paper. The funnel makes the application easy.

  • HOT GLUE GUN

This is a fast and cheap solution. The glue is adhesive immediately. And for the adhesion is more than enough. However, the hot glue gun often leaves strings or tails which need to be cleaned afterwards. Nevertheless, this is our favourite tool when mounting the blocks to the backboard.

    • PICTURE HANGER

When comes to hanging you should consider the weight of the art piece (which will be significantly defined by the type of the backboard). The classic picture hanger will do fine with kapa boards and cardboard. You can use the hot glue gun to mount it.

    • CORD

For more heavy pieces use multiple hooks to spread the load. Using a cord or a wire will help you balanding the art. As the pyramids/blocks are no the same size and are not distribudet equally over the layout, the cente of gravity won't be in the centre point of the art.

    • WIRE

As an alternative to a cord, you can use a wire.
